About

Bio

The first time I shared a poem was on a rock. Surrounded by other new artists and friends, I stood up on a 3in high makeshift stage next to the sidewalk where we were talking and performed. When I stepped off, the excitement was tangible and inspiration was so thick others wanted to share too--songs, poems, stories. This moment is what it means to be an artist to me--be vulnerable and connect with some part of someone else; be inspired in return until we all share our strengths and create joy.

I went the University of Houston and got my B.A. in Creative Writing. I've performed in shows around Houston and Dallas. I've written songs for the church and sang and played piano with the band. I have worked throughout Houston teaching poetry in HISD, SBISD and GISD. I have created and run workshops for different communities in Houston from children to adults.

I work with We Practice Life to offer spaces for people to create and connect. I have recently been published in The Journal of Adolescent Health, The Words Are In My Soul Literary Magazine, Through Loving Words Vol. II. Featured artists at The Curated Canvas, The Alternative HTX, and The Newstonian.

Kiara Artistry LLC was created to be a hub for all of my work. Check out my book Token+Boxes today by pre-ordering it online.
